BEIJING, March 31, 2009 (AFP) - Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao will attend a summit of Southeast Asian nations in Thailand next week aimed at addressing the global economic crisis, his government said Tuesday.
Wen will attend a series of meetings organised by the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) scheduled for April 10-12 in Pattaya, foreign ministry spokesman Qin Gang told journalists.
Besides the ASEAN meetings, Wen will also hold a working breakfast with the leaders of Japan and South Korea, Qin said.
ASEAN consists of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
China is part of the so-called ASEAN plus three grouping, which also included the bloc's 10 members, Japan and South Korea.
Australia, India and New Zealand are also due to attend the talks, along with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and the chiefs of the Asian Development Bank, International Monetary Fund and World Bank.
