China 'demonised' as centre of fakes

A SENIOR Chinese health official said yesterday that his country was being unfairly demonised as a centre of fake-drug production.

Mr Bian Zhenjia, deputy head of the State Food and Drug Administration, defended Beijing's regulatory steps as sufficiently strong. In recent years, China has battled tainted and counterfeit food and pharmaceutical scandals and vowed to get tough.
