BEIJING - Police in China's restive Urumqi city shot dead two Muslim Uighurs "lawbreakers" and injured one other on Monday, a government statement said.

"Police shot and killed two suspected lawbreakers and injured one suspected lawbreaker using legal means," said the statement, released by the Urumqi government's media office.

Urumqi is the capital of China's far northwest Xinjiang region, where unrest between Uighurs and Han Chinese broke out on July 5, leaving at least 184 people dead.
