As many as 11 persons were killed in latest target-killings during the last 36 hours in the metropolis, which has raised the death toll in ongoing killing spree to 100 that had started in June.
Police have failed to maintain the law and order situation across the metropolis and remained unable to arrest any culprit involved in the brutal murders.
The latest victims belonged to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqqiqi (MQM-H) and Sunni Tehreek (ST) and policemen.
According to details, a head constable of Sir Syed Police Station, Muhammad Arshad, and his friend Yasin Muhammad were shot dead at Ghas Mandi. A dead body was also found within the precincts of Artillery Police Station. Police suspect that the deceased was a friend of CID Inspector Nasir who had been killed on Saturday.
Meanwhile, unknown gunmen targeted Liaqat, his son Adeel and brother Shaukat at Liaquatabad No 4, within the limits of Sharifabad Police Station. The wounded were rushed to a local hospital where Shaukat lost his life while others were admitted with critical injuries. Sources say the victim was affiliated with MQM-H.
Another young man, Abid Baig (27), was killed near Azimpura Graveyard. He was a former activist of the Sunni Tehreek but had a close affiliation with MQM-H.
Two other Haqqiqi activists including Atique and Nazim were shot dead on Saturday evening while their friend, Asad Noor, received multiple bullet injuries when armed assailant targeted them in the jurisdiction of Model Colony Police.
Another MQM-H man, Naseem, became a victim of latest target-killings in the precincts of Preedy Police. He was shot dead while sitting at a shop in the neighbourhood.
And in the vicinity of Pirabad Police Station, Usman Rafiq (30) was murdered. Police have unable to ascertain the reasons behind the assassination but termed the incident as a part of the target-killings.
Similarly, Pervaiz Abbasi, resident of Abdullah Apartments Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 16, was shot dead by unknown attackers near his residence.
Irfan Usman was gunned down in Bilal Colony while he was on his way to home. Armed assailants riding a motorbike targeted him and managed to flee.
Meanwhile, the body of a forty-year-old man was recovered from Zaman Town, which was taken to the City morgue for identification and autopsy.
It is pertinent to mention that City Police Chief Wasim Ahmed has declined to comment over the prevailing situation in the City but has said political organisations should handle the present state of affairs by preventing criminal activities. He had reportedly said police had various other responsibilities, including tackling terrorism and other crimes; therefore, political parties should play their role and purge the unwanted elements from their internal structures. -ANN
