BAGHDAD - A civilian was killed and eight other people including a policeman were wounded in two attacks in Baghdad on Sunday, an interior ministry official said.

The civilian was killed when a mortar round hit a street in the eastern district of Kamaliyah. Five others were also wounded by the blast.

In Dora, a southern district of the capital, a policeman and two civilians were wounded when patrolling vehicles were struck by a bomb, said the same official.

Sunday's violence followed a spate of attacks across Iraq on Saturday that killed 19 people, including a politician and a child, and injured dozens on the country's deadliest day since the holy month of Ramadan began eight days ago. -AFP
