Firecracker exploded in boy's hand

KANGAR, MALAYSIA - A 9-year-old boy's Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration came to an abrupt halt when a firecracker exploded in his hand yesterday.

Wan Shahrul Fikri Masuki lost the middle finger of his right hand and two others were badly hurt. He suffered minor injuries to both eyes and mild burns on his face.

He was lighting mercun bola with a group of friends when the accident happened about 7pm.

His older sister, Wan Norshiela Masuki, said the family was preparing dinner while Wan Shahrul played outside.

The 24-year-old said their father had warned the children not to play with firecrackers.
