Great quake hits South Pacific

PORT-VILA, Oct 8, 2009 (AFP) - An 8.1-magnitude quake hit the Santa Cruz islands in the South Pacific early Thursday, seismologists said.

A tsunami warning had been issued for Vanuatu and other nearby countries.
