Bodybuilders flex muscles against polygamy
Tue, Oct 27, 2009
The Jakarta Post/Asia News Network

A number of bodybuilders could not conceal their muscles as they played a role as powerless women at Manahan Stadium in Surakarta, Central Java, on Monday in a show of opposition against polygamy.

During the theatrical performance, the muscle men tried to display the sufferings of women who had to share their husbands with other women, Antara reported.

The bodybuilders also unfurled banners to express their resistance to the newly declared club of polygamy marriage supporters in Bandung.

"To our opinion, the club's formation has hurt women's hearts," said spokesman for the bodybuilders, Partika Subagyo Lelono.

He added that polygamous marriage was a form of violence against women.

The bodybuilders group suggested that the new women empowerment minister join forces with the group in fighting polygamous practice, which is permitted in Islam.
