MIRI - A 22-year-old runner-up of a recent beauty pageant here has been arrested for dabbling in dangerous drugs.

The woman, who also works as a model, was arrested together with a man in his 20s, believed to be her boyfriend, during a raid by police at a pub here yesterday.

Police are now investigating the possibility that the beauty queen could also have been acting as a drug pusher herself.

During the raid, the woman was found with ketamine in her possession.

A police source at the Anti-Narcotics Department confirmed the arrests, adding that the woman had been detained before for drug-related crimes.

The couple is now under remand at the Miri Central police station.

Miri Police Chief Asst Comm Jamaluddin Ibrahim declined to comment on her identity and would only confirm that the police had carried out the anti-drug raids.

Six teenagers were also arrested on Friday after being found with packets of drugs in their possession.

The Form Four students, all aged 17 years, were detained at a commercial centre by anti-narcotics personnel from the Miri police during street patrols.

They had been loitering and behaving suspiciously when police searched them and found two packets of ketamine in one of their bags.

In another case, a woman foreign worker was found dead in an oil palm estate located along the Miri-Bintulu section of the Pan-Borneo Highway late on Friday.

She is believed to have been killed during a quarrel with other employees.

The middle-aged woman, whose body was found near the workers' quarters, was a labourer working in the estate.
