Beijing will not ease only-child policy
Tue, Jan 26, 2010
China Daily/Asia News Network

Reports suggesting Beijing is to loosen control on its one-child policy have been branded not true by authorities.

Beijing Population and Planning Commission (BPPC) say reports yesterday suggesting a relaxation of the current national policy are not sound, xinhuanet.com reported today.

"One-child policy is a basic national policy which should be carried out with consistency and stability," an unnamed official of BPPC said.

Currently parents are only permitted to have a second child if they are both from an only-child generation.
