Pattaya, Chon Buri - A 60-year-old German man has been found dead in his rented room in Pattaya.

Police rushed to the house Sunday evening and found Thomas Parfe dead.

He was hanged to an iron bar of the entrance door and his head was covered with a plastic bag.

Police were alerted by Manas Sodsong, 23, who claimed to be Parfe's adopted son.

Manas said he did not live with Parfe and he was alerted by Parfe's neighbours that Parfe's door was left open for two days and the German was not seen coming out of the house.

Police expected Parfe might have died two days earlier.

Manas said Parfe used to own a Pattaya hotel but he sold it after he became bankrupt.

Pol Lt Col Thailert Luebua, an inspector of the Pattaya Police station, said Parfe apparently committed suicide.

His body was sent to the Forensic Institute for an autopsy.
