Refuse bribery: Two constables awarded

TWO police constables yesterday received commendations after carrying out their duties diligently despite being offered a bribe.

APO Cpl 5643 Kamsulladdin Buda and PC 5105 Muhammad Azlan Ahmad were both awarded certificates of commendation by the Commissioner of Police, Pehin Datu Kerma Setia CP Dato Paduka Seri Zainuddin Jalani, yesterday morning at the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) Headquarters in Gadong.

On August 30, 2008 at 1.15am the two constables, who are part of the Rapid Action Squad (STS) had come across a man and a woman in a vehicle parked nearby the Scouts Headquarters Surau in Gadong. During the investigation, the woman has offered a cash sum of $200 in order for the two constables to not take any further action.

According to a statement from RBPF, the two constables had cited their firm attitude and strong adherence to their pledge to uphold the country's law in fighting corruption, and both proceeded to report the incident and took action against the accused.

As such the accused was brought before the court and sentenced to a fine of six thousand dollars or six months imprisonment.

The ceremony took place shortly after a Commissioner's Parade that was carried out by 151 RBPF personnel.

Also present were Deputy Commissioner of Police Sharifah Salmah Dato Syed Hussein Alkaff and Md Yusof Dato Seri Paduka Hj Abdul Rahman from the Anti Corruption Bureau.
