Japan stocks slip as Takeda, bank shares fall

TOKYO - Japan's Nikkei average extended losses on Tuesday from a seven-week closing low hit the previous session, dragged lower by Takeda Pharmaceutical after earnings results, while banks slid again after United States shares were hit by Citigroup's warning of more losses.

As of 8.01am, the benchmark Nikkei average was down 0.7 per cent, or 116.34 points, at 16,152.58. Hit by widening credit fears, the benchmark ended down 1.5 per cent on Monday at 16,268.92, its lowest close since Sept 18.

The broader Topix index shed 0.8 per cent, or 13.04 points, to 1,562.09. -- REUTERS
