SAN FRANCISCO - FORMER vice president Al Gore has signed on as a partner at a prestigious California venture capital firm, just weeks after being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, the company said on Monday. Mr Gore joins the Silicon Valley company Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers, which was an early investor in Google, Netscape and Amazon.com, it said in a statement. He is to be a leader in the Menlo Park, California company's 'clean tech' investment efforts, media reports said. Mr Gore, who served eight years as Bill Clinton's vice president, lost the 2000 presidential election to incumbent President George W. Bush. He has campaigned against the dangers of climate change, and has seen his popularity soar as 'green' efforts gain momentum.The release of his Oscar-winning documentary, 'An Inconvenient Truth,' won him widespread respect and newfound admiration around the world. Mr Gore has said he would donate his salary to the Alliance for Climate Protection, a nonprofit advocacy group he founded. -- AFP
