Asian shares up at opening

>KUALA LUMPUR The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) rose at opening up 11.94 points, or 0.84 per cent to 1439.71.

TOKYO
Japanese stocks opened higher more than 1 per cent on Thursday as exporters such as Sony Corp gained on a softening yen and a jump on Wall Street after strong economic data calmed recession fears.

The benchmark Nikkei average rose 1.1 per cent or 173.52 points to 15,782.40 as of 8:01am. The broader Topix index climbed 1.1 per cent to 1,543.88. -- REUTERS
