China inflation at 8.5% in April
Mon, May 12, 2008
AFP

>BEIJING - CHINA'S inflation rate hit 8.5 per cent in April, remaining near 12-year highs, the National Bureau of Statistics said.

The figure on Monday comes on top of 8.3 per cent consumer price inflation in March and 8.7 per cent in February.

China has made inflation control a top priority for economic policy-making this year, fearing that rising prices will erode the material well-being of a large proportion of the population. -- AFP
