JAKARTA - INDONESIA swore in Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati as its new coordinating minister for economic affairs on Tuesday, reports said.

Ms Indrawati was officially handed the job by predecessor Mr Boediono, who abandoned the top cabinet economic position one month ago to take up the governorship of the Bank of Indonesia (BI), state news agency Antara reported.

'I realise this job is tough, and so does the president. But starting today I will take over from (Mr Boediono). I will give precedence to the jobs I think need immediate attention,' she was quoted as saying by news site inilah.com.

Mr Boediono moved to the BI on May 22 after the central bank's previous head Mr Burhanuddin Abdullah was detained by the anti-corruption watchdog just weeks before the end of his five year term.

Mr Abdullah is alleged to have taken part in the payment of BI funds to lawmakers in the national parliament deliberating a bill governing the bank's operations. -- AFP
