TOKYO
Japan's Nikkei average edged up 0.3 per cent after opening lower on Monday, with Fast Retailing offsetting falls of blue-chip exporters as investors remained cautious ahead of US earnings and further government actions on troubled home financing providers.

Financials were mixed, with Japan's top lender Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group almost flat.

As of 8.05am Singapore time, the benchmark Nikkei was up 29.40 points at 13,069.09. The broader Topix gained 0.1 per cent to 1,286.70. -- REUTERS
