Japanese shares open lower

>TOKYO
The Nikkei average fell 0.4 per cent on Wednesday, led down by exporters like Canon Inc amid concerns about the global economic outlook.

By 8am Singapore time, the benchmark Nikkei had fallen 44.32 points to 12,734.39.

The broader Topix lost 0.2 per cent to 1,227.35.
