STI opens sharply lower

SINGAPORE shares opened sharply lower with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 74.06 points, or 3.16 per cent at 2,345.23.

Up to 53.8 million shares exchanged hands.

Losers beat gainers 170 to 13.
