Tokyo stocks tumble 6.79 percent by close

>TOKYO - Japan's Nikkei share index tumbled 6.79 percent by the close of trade on Wednesday, hit by growing fears of a global recession and a stronger yen, which is bad for exporters.

The Nikkei-225 lost 631.56 points to 8,674.69, snapping a three-day rebound.
