Japan Nikkei surges, boosted by tech shares

>TOKYO - Japan's Nikkei average climbed 3 percent on Monday in roller-coaster trade after earlier touching a 26-year-low, buoyed by strong tech shares and a slightly weaker yen.

The benchmark Nikkei climbed 229.89 points to 7,878. Earlier, it fell below 7,603 for its lowest intraday level since 1982.

The broader Topix also rose, gaining 0.2 percent to 807.67.
