STI opens 4.19% lower

SINGAPORE shares opened lower with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 78.47 points, or 4.19 per cent, at 1,790.35.

Up to 141.3 million shares exchanged hands.

Losers beat gainers 217 to 42.
