SHANGHAI, CHINA - Chinese shares edged up 0.10 percent by midday Monday, as investors remained cautious ahead of China's annual economic planning meeting at the end of the month, dealers said.

The Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, was up 3.22 points, at 3,311.57.

"Shares of large-caps were little changed as everyone is waiting for a clear trading direction from the upcoming central economic work conference at the end of this month," Guotai Jun'an Securities analyst Zhai Peng told Dow Jones Newswires.

The Shanghai A-share index added 3.41 points, or 0.10 percent, to 3,473.09, while the Shenzhen A-share index gained 5.30 points, or 0.42 percent, to 1,274.19.
