Japanese shares end down 0.62%

TOKYO - Tokyo shares fell 0.62 percent Thursday as the yen rose to its highest level in 14 years against the dollar, hitting exporters.

The benchmark Nikkei index shed 58.40 points to 9,383.24. The broader Topix index of all first-section shares lost 3.73 points, or 0.45 percent, to 829.56.
