MANILA - TWO more Chinese-made milk products sold in the Philippines have been tainted with the industrial chemical melamine, a government agency said on Wednesday.
The Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) carried out positive tests on the 'Lotte B+W KOALA Biscuit' and the 'Lotte Chocolate Snack KOALA Biscuit,' the Health Department said.
Six Chinese-made milk products have now been found to have unhealthy levels of melamine including Lotte Strawberry Snack Koala Biscuits which was identified on October 15.
Lotte is a South Korean company with headquarters in Japan.
Three other products being sold in the Philippines, Jollycow Slender High Calcium Low Fat Milk, Greenfood Yili Fresh Milk and Mengniu Drink were also found to be contaminated with melamine earlier.
Although there are no reports of illnesses or deaths resulting from melamine contamination in the Philippines, President Gloria Arroyo previously ordered government agencies to close any store found selling tainted milk products.
Melamine, which is normally used to make plastics, has been found in infant milk formula and been blamed for killing four babies in China and making at least 53,000 ill.
In one of China's worst product recall scandals, countries from Asia to Europe have decided to suspend imports of Chinese milk products or to withdraw them from the market. -- AFP
