BUKIT MERTAJAM, MALAYSIA - Some 200 Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) students at its Permatang Pauh campus are still being quarantined at their hostels while 10 others remain warded at Seberang Jaya Hospital for influenza A (H1N1).

State Health Department officials were seen yesterday attending to the students quarantined at the three hostels located within the campus.

It is learnt that a psychologist from the department was also sent there to carry out counselling for the students who were upset about the situation.

The Seberang Prai Tengah district office had taken measures to alert and educate residents around the campus in Permatang Pauh, Taman Pauh, Taman Pauh Jaya and Seberang Jaya to take precautions against the spread of the virus.

UiTM had on Monday closed its campus for a week after 10 students came down with symptoms.

Meanwhile, devotees attending the annual feast of St Anne will be screened by the Malaysian Red Crescent Society at the site.

Organising chairman Mathew Michael said the state Health Department would operate a booth at the main entrance with big banners to create awareness among the devotees.

He said pamphlets would be distributed to the public today, tomorrow and Sunday.

The annual feast of St Anne will be celebrated at the sanctuary in Jalan Kulim here for the next three days .

More than100,000 devotees are expected to attend the annual festival which attracts believers from around the country.
