JOHOR BARU - People who want to avoid the huge crowd this festive season can shop at a 24-hour bazaar in Taman Johor Jaya here.
The annual 10-day Chinese New Year bazaar along Jalan Dedap 14 will be open from Jan 31 to Feb 9.
Its organising chairman Phang Kam Long said that there would be about 40 makeshift stalls selling potted plants, clothes, cookies, dried meat and festive decorations round the clock.
"They can avoid the peak hour crowds elsewhere by shopping here.
"This is the first time we are cooperating with the Johor Jaya market traders association to ensure a successful event," he said yesterday.
In past years there had been dissatisfaction between the stallholders and market traders as fresh produce was also sold at the bazaar.
Johor Baru Central Municipal Council (MPJBT) Johor Jaya zone councillor Tan Tuan Peng said that Jalan Dedap 14 would be temporarily made into a one-way street to minimise traffic congestion.
"We hope residents and motorists will cooperate with the traders as the bazaar is a once-in-a-year event.
"The council president has also agreed to issue temporary licences for the first time to stallholders for 10 days so that they will not be trading illegally like in past years," he said.
