LONDON - BRITISH soul singer Gabrielle implored fans at her latest concert in Nottingham to 'get a refund' after she turned in a poor performance, The Times reported on Monday.

In a review of the February 7 event at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham, central England, the newspaper said that the artist told the crowd: 'I didn't want to give you a substandard show, which is what I feel I'm doing ... I think you should get a refund.'

According to The Times, the 37-year-old arrived on stage late at the concert - the first of a tour of Britain - and after struggling to sing loud enough for the audience to hear her, she apologised and said she had been battling the flu for the past week.

Describing the performance, the paper said: 'Plagued by a sore throat and a severe attack of self-doubt ... (Gabrielle) compounded a mediocre performance by giving herself a sustained bout of verbal self-flagellation.' -- AFP
