POWER metal - the name itself sounds fearsome. Pundits can thank German band Helloween for being one of the pioneers of this sub-genre of heavy metal.

The quintet started out in 1984, thrilling metal fans with speedy guitar riffs, double-quick bass drums and tenor-ranged vocals.

'It's all about the energy,' says guitarist Sascha Gerstner when asked about the band's longevity.

'The music business can be hard. Having a long breath is essential to survival in this industry.'

Fans here can experience that energy when the band plays at Fort Canning on Feb 24, their first performance here.
