Elton John fires up crowd at Singapore concert
Wed, May 07, 2008
The Straits Times

SINGER Elton John lived up to the title of his world tour - Rocket Man - at the Singapore Indoor Stadium last night.

Drawing a capacity turnout of 11,000 people, mostly baby-boomers, the 61-year-old was firing on all cylinders as he covered newer songs and older hits, including Daniel, Crocodile Rock and Bennie And The Jets in the 2 1/2-hour gig.

John is no longer as flamboyantly dressed as he once was. Still, the British singer-pianist was eye-catching enough in a sequinned coat, and his voice remained sturdy, supple and full of conviction.

When he rolled out his 1970 hit Your Song, John, who also performed here in 1993 and 2001, renewed his commitment to his fans, singing: 'My gift is my song and this one's for you.'
