It was David versus David in the spectacular final performance round of American Idol 7, held at Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre to a 7000-strong crowd.
Each David performed three songs in the finale show, with doe-eyed teen David Archuleta, 17, being the star of the night as he took home the praise of all three judges.
The first round saw Archuleta and Cook, 25, receiving sensational reviews for their performances of U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" and Elton John's "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" respectively.

Despite Cook's impressive take on Collective Soul's "The World I Know", it was clear who stole the limelight for the night.
Closing the show, and stealing it with him, Archuleta made it third time lucky, blowing the judges away with his cover of John Lennon's "Imagine".
Perhaps the biggest praise for Archuleta came from Simon Cowell: "You came out here tonight to win. And what we have witnessed is a knockout."
Stay tuned to find out who the next American Idol will be.
The final performance round of American Idol 7 will air tonight on Channel 5 at 10 pm.
The results show (simulcast from USA) will be aired tomorrow at 8 am with a repeat broadcast at 10 pm.
