881 duo think the Japanese might take to getai

BUBBLY stage and movie actress Yeo Yann Yann is rarely at a loss for words.

But when she and fellow thespian Mindee Ong were in Tokyo recently to promote the upcoming release of getai movie 881 in Japan, the 31-year-old had to field some 20 interviews from TV stations and the print media.

'During the last interview - before we rushed to the cinema for the gala premiere - we were so exhausted that when we were asked a question, we actually went totally silent for almost 30 seconds.'

'Which is a long time in front of a camera,' she added.

The two co-stars in the movie were not accompanied by its director Royston Tan, who was at the Shanghai Film Festival where 881 was screening.

The movie, which grossed $2 million in Singapore last year, will have its run in Tokyo in August and also travel to other Japanese cities.

It will carry Japanese subtitles
