WHEN people think of national service (NS) and theatre, Michael Chiang's iconic 1987 play Army Daze probably comes to mind.

The comedy about five hapless and bumbling recruits was staged by TheatreWorks and later made into a hit 1996 movie of the same title. In 2006, it was re-staged as a play by Toy Factory Productions.

In the wake of Army Daze's success, no other major production has dealt exclusively with Singapore's boys in green.

Until now.

More than two decades later, a triple bill of plays about NS, will hit the stage.

Titled Own Time Own Target, army slang for taking your time to fire, the production is part of the upcoming OCBC Singapore Theatre Festival organised by local theatre company Wild Rice.

The biennial festival, now in its second edition and backed by new title sponsor OCBC, will showcase 14 new Singapore plays.
