LOS ANGELES, USA - Hollywood star Ryan O'Neal and his son Redmond were arrested Wednesday in California on suspicion of drug possession, police said.
The 67-year-old "Love Story" star and his 24-year-old son were booked after police searched the family home in Malibu, 30 kilometers (19 miles) west of Los Angeles, during a routine probation check, county sheriff spokesman Steve Whitmore said.
The men were released after posting US$10,000, the spokesman said.
Redmond O'Neal, Ryan's son with the actress Farrah Fawcett, was placed on three years probation in June after pleading guilty to possession of heroin and methamphetamine.
The son was found in possession of methamphetamine, while a vial of the drug was found in his father's bedroom as well, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing the sheriff's office.
Ryan O'Neal, nominated for an Oscar in 1971 for "Love Story," was booked in 2007 on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after firing a shot during an argument with another son Griffin O'Neal.
Ryan O'Neal is also the father of Tatum O'Neal, who in 1974 became the youngest person to win an Academy Award when she won the supporting actress Oscar for her role in "Paper Moon" which also starred her father.
In June she was arrested for trying to buy crack cocaine, and after striking a deal with prosecutors she pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in exchange for attending two half-day drug-treatment sessions and paying a fine.
