Hong Kong actor Nicholas Tse stoutly denied in a recent interview that he had ever hated fellow actor Edison Chen, the man in the middle of the sex photo saga. This was the first time he spoke about Edison since the scandal broke some nine months ago.
Nicholas' wife, actress Cecilia Cheung, was one of several well-known industry names allegedly involved with Edison. Photos of Edison's bedroom antics were leaked online after he sent his computer for repairs.
In a recent interview, the 28-year-old Nicholas said: "Edison and I were classmates. I have known him for 13 years, longer than I know my wife."
Nicholas and Edison were classmates in secondary school, when Nicholas switched schools to join Edison at the Hong Kong International School in 1995. Apparently, the two got on like a house on fire. According to my paper, Edison once said: "I used to go to Nicholas' home to stay over. Nicholas also came to my home."
At the recent interview, Nicholas was asked if he would remain friends with Edison.
He said: "Before this incident (referring to the sex photo scandal), the media was always comparing us. Did I ever make a hue and cry over this? I have known him for 13 years. Don't I know what kind of person he is?"
When he was asked if he minded his wife Cecilia being linked to the sex photo scandal, he said: "I know her for 11 years. When I proposed to her that day, I already knew what kind of person she was."
Nicholas married Cecilia in 2006. They have a son, Lucas, who is one year old.
He added: "Our characters are similar. We do not run away from what we have done. Everyone has a past. I trust her absolutely."
And did their marriage ever threaten to hit the rocks with the publicising of the sex photo scandal?
With a smile, Nicholas said calmly: "Nope."
