DANIEL Day-Lewis, the fiercely-professional actor, is trapped inside a character, reported the New York Daily News.

The Oscar-winner has "become" Guido Contini, the skirt-chasing director in musical project Nine. Even when cameras aren't rolling, the Irishman speaks with an Italian accent.

"He's always...telling the chef to whip up some pasta," a witness said, chuckling.
