LONDON, ENGLAND - ALTERNATIVE rock band White Lies has gone straight to number one in the album chart, fulfilling their billing as one of the most hotly-tipped acts of 2009, the Official Charts Company said on Sunday.
The band, from the west London suburb of Ealing, was the first British act this year to achieve a number one debut album with 'To Lose My Life'.
The band caught the attention of music writers and fans during last summer's festivals and a sell-out British tour.
Still at number two after 18 weeks was American rock band Kings of Leon with 'Only by the Night', while Irish pop rockers Script dropped two places to number three with 'The Script'.
There was little change at the top of the singles charts where American singer Lady GaGa clung to the top spot with 'Just Dance'. She held off 'Day 'n' Nite', a collaboration between Cleveland rapper Kid Cudi and Italian dance act Crookers.
