FANS of video games like Tomb Raider and Final Fantasy will soon get to hear the theme music of their favourite games live in concert.
Video Games Live (VGL), a four-year-old worldwide concert series, will debut in Singapore on June 19 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Organised by the Singapore Exhibition Centre, the concert will feature the music of popular video games such as Final Fantasy, Guitar Hero, Tomb Raider, Tron and Space Invaders.
The music will be performed by the National University of Singapore (NUS) Symphony Orchestra and the NUS Choir. Singaporean YouTube star and pianist Martin Leong, known for playing the piano blindfolded, will also be performing at the show.
Speaking to Singaporean media in a video conference via Skype from his home studio in California, composer Tommy Tallarico, co-creator and executive producer of VGL, said he was excited that the concert series was coming to Singapore.
"Singapore is an amazing country. It's got music, art, electronics and infrastructure combined," said the 41-year-old, who has composed music for the new Pac-Man World games.
"It'll be great to have my music and love for video games heard and seen in such a place."
The concert here will be VGL's 111th instalment. About 20 per cent of its tickets, which went on sale last month, have been sold at press time.
Mr Tallarico - who arranges the music and sources performers for the concerts - will also go on stage to play the guitar at the five-hour concert.
Also expect a special performance by Mr Norihiko Hibino, composer for Metal Gear Solid, a hit video game that has sold over 22 million copies worldwide.
