Pussycat Doll says Jai Ho shoot was tough

By Sheela Narayanan

SINGING Jai Ho and wearing that Rocky S sari last year at the New York Fashion Week were probably the closest Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt (photo inset - left) has come to India or anything remotely Indian.

Speaking to tabla! from Melbourne ahead of PCD's concert in Singapore on June 4 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium as part of the group's world tour, Wyatt said nevertheless it was "awesome" that the group had the opportunity to sing the song and "hop on the Slumdog Millionaire bandwagon".

"I had heard the buzz around the film and when we saw it in London, we were touched," she said.

But dancing Bollywood-style for the video - it recreated the dance number in the movie's closing credits - was a challenge.

"It was harder for some of us but it was definitely interesting to learn the meaning behind the moves," she said.

The group shot the Jai Ho video in Vienna, Austria, during a blizzard, and since the PCD stage wardrobe does not usually include turtleneck sweaters and several layers of clothing, it was a very cold shoot.

"We were freezing our butts off," exclaimed Wyatt with a laugh.

Of course it is not easy playing second fiddle to lead singer Nicole Scherzinger who dominates the limelight. Wyatt admitted that it can be "disheartening" but that is how PCD works.

She said: "What's important is to be on stage, singing and seeing our fans face-to-face."
