KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA - Music and video stores nationwide received an unprecedented number of visitors who thronged the shops after receiving news of the death of pop legend Michael Jackson on Friday. Despite being a workday some shops were packed with fans from morning until night.

Speedy Video sales assistant Mohd Zulfiqah Hamid said that the Bangsar Village outlet received no less than 20 visitors hourly from morning until 10pm.

"The customers made a clean sweep of the artiste's Essential Collection, while many others who couldn't get hold of the album turned their sights on his other albums, such as History and Dangerous," he said, adding that the visitors were mostly from 20 to 50 years old.

"The album was initially slow moving, since we received it several months ago and no one had bought a copy yet. But yesterday we managed to sell all six copies as well as the only available DVD copy by 11am."

Rock Corner sales assistant Andrew Ling said their outlet sold more than 20 copies of the same album. He said more albums had been ordered to cater for the roaring demand.

Even pirated DVD sellers were paying tribute to the legendary singer. A check showed that most of the vendors on the streets of Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur were blaring Michael's hits.
