Singaporeans make waves in Vegas

By Angelina Dass

Joyce & The Boys, a local dance group, emerged second runners-up at the recently held 2009 World Hip Hop Dance Championship in Las Vegas.

The group competed for the global title with more than 2000 of the world's top street dancers from over 30 countries.

They went up against contenders from countries such as Germany, Canada and even the United States to come in third in the adult division of the competition.

Their slick moves and professional choreography edged out former World Champions Philippine AllStars, who came in fourth.

Joyce & The Boys have three Ngee Ann Polytechnic graduates, namely Joyce Tan Chiew Loo, Seah Seng Kiat and Mohamad Sophan Ng Bin Mohd Herman Ng.

The other two members of the team are Ngee Ann Polytechnic students, Tan Chin Sian and Terence Then.

Netizens hail Joyce & The Boys as Singapore’s best dance crew.

For instance, hyuugajwu posted on YouTube that the team brings "Singapore dance to a whole new level", while clubdaa said: "NICE! You guys really did Singapore proud!"

For me, their energetic moves and perfect coordination may be comparable or even better than what we see on local television!
