FORMER Indian president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who has inspired millions of his countrymen, has consented to a cameo role in a Bollywood movie.

Malaysia Nanban reported that Kalam, who was in office from 2002 to 2007, will be acting as himself in the movie "I am Kalam" - about a boy who gets inspired after watching him deliver a speech.

Popular Hindi actor and director Gulshan Grover said the former president had agreed to the role after learning about the film.

The movie, which is an Indian-French collaboration with participation from the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef), is being directed by Madhav Panda.
