Curiously emotive visions on debut single
Wed, Feb 10, 2010
my paper

By Jill Alphonso

POSTED on MTV's website on Monday night, this is the collaboration between James Mercer of indie band The Shins and producer Brian Burton (aka Danger Mouse of Gnarls Barkley).

If you haven't heard the debut single The High Road, which was released last December, you must.

One of the most beautiful indie pop tracks made in the past year, the accompanying video invokes late-night visions of white horses, spiders, and women dancing in boxes along a desert road.

Curiously emotive, it sees Mercer and Danger Mouse walking those roads, flashlights in hand, till the break of dawn.

Mercer, having abandoned the acclaimed but embattled band The Shins for this project, will return after Broken Bells - the band comprising both artists - finishes its current projects this year.

Its debut album will be released next month and, after seeing this video, this reviewer can't wait for more.
