FESTIVAL: Timbre Rock & Roots 2010
VENUE: Marina Promenade
WHEN: Last Friday and Saturday
AUDIENCE: 8,500 over two days
BOY, can Jools Holland bring the boogie.
The charismatic bandleader and multi-instrumentalist, backed by his 20-piece Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, certainly packed a mean punch in the fun department last Saturday.
In an infectious 75-minute set, the British stalwart, 52, led the audience on a rollicking roller-coaster ride of everything from soul and doo-wop to an amped-up ska version of I Got You Under My Skin.
The crowd lapped it up, dancing furiously throughout.

In contrast, American outfit The Fray, who closed the festival, slowed things down several notches with their brand of piano rock. Still, radio-friendly hits like How To Save A Life elicited singalongs and screams from the audience.
And, if any artist deserved an award for being the most personable, it would be legendary American blues musician Buddy Guy, 73.
He got up close and personal with festival-goers by leaving the stage to play in the stands last Friday night.
