ACTOR Kwon Sang-woo was indicted Tuesday for ramming his vehicle into a parked car, a police car and wedding hall garden tree before fleeing the scene.
The Seoul District Prosecutors' Office said that it charged the 34-year-old star with neglecting to take emergency measures after an accident. It sought a 5 million won (S$5,717) fine against Kwon in a summary case.
The incident took place at an alleyway in Cheoungdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul around 2:55 a.m. on June 12.
According to Gangnam police, Kwon drove his management agency's Cadillac into the parked car and then the police patrol car, which was following his car at the time. He then abandoned his vehicle and ran away.
He told police that he fled the scene for fear he would damage the image of an upcoming movie in which he was starring.
Visitors to online news sites doubted his testimony, saying that he had reported to the police for questioning belatedly -- two days after the incident -- possibly because he had been driving while drunk.
But prosecutors did not charge Kwon with drunk driving, citing lack of evidence.
