Hong Kong actor Daniel Wu is renowned for his suave and charming looks, but the American-born heart throb claims he's not the hottest man in town.
"There was a reporter asking me whether a messy and dirty style would affect my iconic handsome image. Actually when I open my eyes everyday, I do not think that I am very handsome," said the 37-year-old.
Although some women (or men) might object violently to this, Wu told AsiaOne that he identifies himself as a kind and mature gentleman instead, just like the character in his movie "Don't Go Breaking My Heart".
In this romantic comedy, Wu plays failing architect Kevin Fong who pursues Zixin (played by Gao Yuan Yuan), who is torn between him and another man, fund manager Sean Cheung (Louis Koo).
Wu reckons that the character he plays in the Johnnie To film bears similar traits to him.
"We are both very hardworking, simple and subtle," said Wu.
In a previous interview, Wu mentioned that romantic comedies were not his cup of tea and when asked why he decided to act in this movie, the actor said that it was a "good change as compared to action movies".
"To be able to work together with Louis and Johnnie in this new genre, it is rather refreshing for all of us.
"Since everyone is excited to give this a shot and the story is appealing to me, we just started the balling rolling," said Wu.
Perhaps what made the movie more interesting for the actors was that To had kept the ending a secret until the final week of shooting.
Wu told AsiaOne that they were not given the full script before the shoot and kept revising during the various shoots.
"Through our interactions, the story got better and better, which was also the fun part during the shooting. We enjoyed it every much," said Wu.
"Don't Go Breaking My Heart" was one of the top grossing Chinese romantic comedies in 2011 and was a hit in Hong Kong and China, fetching US$1.58 million (S$2 million) and US$15.4 million in their respective box offices.
The movie will premiere this Sunday on Celestial Movies.
Viewers stand a chance to win a three-day trip to Hong Kong for two with accommodation and will also be given a private tour of some of the shooting locations where "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" was filmed.
The regional online contest runs till Feb 14. More information can be found at http://www.facebook.com/Ilikecm and http://www.ilikecm.com/.
