SINGAPORE - Local TV stars joined the hundreds of fans who turned up to say farewell to veteran actor Huang Wenyong on Wednesday afternoon.
Celebrities such as his former co-stars Zoe Tay and Xiang Yun were among those who sent off his hearse at noon, reported The Straits Times. The cortege passed his home studio MediaCorp at the Caldecott Broadcast Centre. The paper reported that 500 staff members stood along the road as the hearse passed, and clapped as it went by.
The station's Channel 8 reportedly came to a standstill to allow its staff to attend the funeral.
TV actors Tay Ping Hui, Pierre Png, Brandon Wong, Zheng Ge Ping, Zzen Chong, Bryan Wong, and Cavin Soh served as pallbearers for the beloved actor, who was cremated at Bright Hill Drive.
Xiang Yun, through tears, told the crowd, which swelled to more than 1,000 outside the funeral parlour: "He was someone who loved crowds. So if he were around to see us all here, he would be very happy."
Fans who followed the procession, mostly older women and seniors, chanted Buddhist scriptures.
The actor had died of lymphoma on Saturday at the age of 60 and is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter.
