Tomorrow at 6am on Singapore's National Day, an updated video for the National Anthem "Majulah Singapura" (meaning "Onward Singapore") will be broadcast in celebration of Singapore's 47th National Day.
Produced by the National Heritage Board, the new video shows images that reflect the changes that have taken place in Singapore over the past decade. It will highlight significant moments from Singapore's history in the fields of trade, arts and transport, among others.
The original Anthem, officially launched on December 3, 1959, was composed by the late Encik Zubir Said in the key of G major. In 2001, a new arrangement of the National Anthem in the key of F major was composed by Cultural Medallion winner Mr Phoon Yew Tien. A new video accompanying it was released on January 19, 2001.
The score of the Anthem in the new video will remain the same as the 2001 version. This new video will replace the current version screened over all MediaCorp channels and all official events from August 9.
