LIVE streaming of events. Wireless Internet at the Games Village. A Digital Concierge offering personalised information and services. And a virtual reality model of how Singapore will look like in 2010.
Singapore is going all out on the technological front in its bid to host the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in 2010.
Its game plan was unveiled on Monday by Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, when he updated the media on the country's effort to land the inaugral Games.
Dr Balakrishnan also revealed that it will cost Singapore about $100 million to host the inaugral YOG is $100 million.
While the International Olympic Council (IOC) holds broadcast rights to the YOG, Singapore's bid committee is hopeful that permission will be granted for the events to be streamed on the Internet.
Also, the National University of Singapore's University Town@Warren, which will be built on an old golf course along Dover Road, will be used as the Youth Olympic Village.
Up to 5,000 beds are available across eight residential colleges at the University Town@Warren, which also features a 2,000 seat dining hall.
The entire village will be able to access wireless Internet, and a Digital Concierge service will also be available, via mobile phones and PDAs, to provide real-time updates of YOG-related information.
Users can even receive suggestions on what to do and where to go from the Digital Concierge while on the move.
Said Dr Balakrishnan: "We are also planning to show what Singapore will look like in 2010. A virtual reality model is in the works and people can soon see it in avatar form.''
